The Outside Shot, Walter Dean Myers

Significance

The significance of this book is that it teaches you college life and the way things go reallying on what you do. The subject being brought up is mostly is the classes you take and the sport of basketball being played. Through both of those things it comes down to how you react and go along with the environment or the outside shot at things. It's important because the book tells you how things go and how things will go and this is important because it gives you a heads up and a chance to think about college and what you want to do or pursue, and how are you going to do it with a successful manor. This book gives you something to look forward to and let alone think about. The total essence is that if you stay on the right track and keep your mind clear, go for things, and take the time to break before you react to things or people you will be successful at the college level and things will go more fluently for you.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that it was an okay book. I think it could have relayed the message a little bit better for a more general understanding. In the book you could read on and on and not find the message if you didn't dig into. I found what it was and it was a great message. The author defiantly showed the authentic view of college life. As I told it was hard in the beginning to pull it out but as the book went along you would find the truly inspired sports writing the author put into the book. Which zoomed me in or gave me a better view of the electrifying action. The characters in the story where good providing better perspective of the story and about the life of college young adults. This book would affects kids in High School and college to get you an understanding and a better understanding of the components that tie into this wonderful sports story. That's what I received and my view or opinion of this fast-paced plot.

Evidence

The evidence I received while reading this book was that if you want to make it to the professional level you need to keep your head straight and your plate clean. Another argument being made was if the main character (Lonnie) could make it as a college man, with distraction on his outside shot a a bright future. The facts or showings I received to support my comments was that Lonnie throughout the book made bad decision and didn't be very successful as he wanted to be. For example, getting side money from a bet on the way he played the game or how the team played the game. This made him side track on his way to pursue his goal in college. Many things happened on the road to make it big but after a matter of time he pulled himself together in some ways in others kept doing. These are things you can think about. I would say these thoughts are very much true in many ways in a slight way it can be shown as opinions. In my mind it is very factual information.

Connection

This books shows a strong connection to the world in all eras. The connection that comes from this text is the relationship to sports in the professional level and how many people get caught for things that are illegal to that sport and things that you should do. For example: taking a performance enhancing drugs like steroids to boost them up. The example showed in this book was players betting on there game which is a criminal thing at the professional level. This book has been influenced from the past because many players that have played have done certain things to get something taken away from them. Coming in thinking there would make it and do something stupid to mess up their opportunity at something they have gained. The connection to the world right know is worst than the past many players have used or did something that shouldn't have done. For example: Barry Bonds a great baseball player who has the most home runs in MLB history is on trail for using steroids, something that can mess up his whole career. Another example that has happened is Michael Vick one of the best players in the NFL is in federal prison for fighting dogs another stupid thing. These are things that have occurred in my time. This book will affect the future by people understanding that it's more important to succeed with no risk than fail with many. That's the connection this book can bring to the world outside.

Suppostion

As I wrap up my thoughts of this book I shall remember that to succeed you need to have faith and play the game right not allowing nothing come in your way. Life would be different if this book never happened. If your receive the true meaning and understand that, " Life's battles don't always go to the faster or stronger man, but in the end the one who wins is the man who thinks he can." If you keep that quote in your mind you will be a successful person to go after anything you want grab with nothing in your tracks to receive it. That's what I received from this book that was a very positive thing that I have read.
